It was July of 2018, and my third semester of my bachelors. In a group of 7 close friends, 3 of us decided that as an IT student we had to be a part of the e-commerce wave and do something, we had to start our own e-commerce business. Just even before starting, we were having lunch and everyone was suddenly interested in the idea of starting something of our own, so all 7 of us were now the co-founder of something we had imagined would be a world-class e-commerce business.
We immediately started working and for us every small step was precious, the name itself Era Fashion took 7 days to be finalized. Similarly, we had to complete the logo and even the process of how we would do things. A team of 7 seemed like we could do a lot of things in a short amount of time, it could be possible. But this all had challenges, we thought were strength. We had the same skillset, the same mindset and the same experience.
We were ready to do the dirty work but we did not even know what to look for, and it showed. Not before long, 2 of the members decided this was not for them and left. We were getting some orders and sold some of the stuff which included Jackets, Kurtha, Glasses, Lockets, Bags, Slippers and even T-shirt. We were generalizing too much, we had become a Kapada Pasal but just online.
The whole vision had become a Kapada Pasal, and it did not inspire us. More challenges came in the form of rage between 3 of my friends, which never seem to be resolved. And this was another trigger for one member to leave again. We were down to 4 members.
It was at that moment that we thought, we need to do something different. And that something was to start a fashion blog which we would write after learning about it the same day. It seemed like a good idea and a lot of effort was poured but we missed another thing, marketing. Something we knew nothing about.
Maybe this was the final push for all of us, suddenly the priorities changed, this e-commerce, Era Fashion became just one of the stories to tell.
